Juneau a special place…

I visited Juneau for the first time on the Old Noordam, which is now the Marella Celebration, back in 1996 a loooooooooooonnnng time ago.  I just loved Alaska at first sight, my favorite of course the famous Red Dog Saloon in Juneau which is still going strong to this day.  A few years later I found myself living in Alaska for over a year and just loved making friends and becoming a part of the community albeit for a short time.  When I visit Juneau, I still feel like I am coming home, the friends I met welcome me back with open arms the hospitality and scenery is second to none.

Fast Fact…

You can only travel to Juneau by air or by sea there are no roads into Juneau.

Juneau Docking locations…

When you cruise into Juneau you can dock or tender and luckily most docks are within easy walking distance but there is one dock AJ Dock where it is a little walk and in fact most ships will provide a shuttle service but check with the front desk or the on-board shopping expert when you board your ship or if you’re a walker and it’s not raining you will enjoy the walk into town.

Let’s go shopping…

Juneau is great for shopping everything is all in one place, one store not to be missed is Caribou Crossings http://www.cariboucrossings.com/ Tanja Cadigan the owner is one of my dear friends and runs a fabulous shopping location.  She represents over 60 Alaskan Artists; Tanja is a local lady so of course her store is locally owned and operated.  Caribou Crossings showcase unique handmade crafts from all over the state! With a solid reputation for outstanding customer service, and 15 years of nurturing artists’ talents, Caribou Crossings prides itself in providing the opportunity to shop local and buy Alaskan.  Your visit to Juneau is not complete unless you have visited Caribou Crossings.

Couldn’t get more local…

Next up is the Senate Building a little higher up on S. Franklin Street, with all locally owned and operated retail locations two of my favourites is Boheme Clothing Boutique owned by another dear friend of mine Ann House, drop in and say hi, I promise you will leave with a bag full of fabulous clothes. Harbor Tea and Spice   https://www.harborteaspice.com/ offers over 300 organic bulk herbs and spices and in-house spice blends, as well as over 50 varieties of organic teas from all over the world including a few of its own herbal blends. You will also find unique gifts, bottles of flavor-infused olive oil and vinegar, spice and tea accessories, essential oils, aroma jewelry and more!

Historic Merchants Wharf…

Make your way to Historic Merchants Wharf for lunch one of my favorites is Hangar on the Wharf Pub & Grill if there are a lot of ships in the same day it will be busy but it is worth the wait.  Or choose Alaska Fish & Chips, or Roma Bistro, then for a coffee and a snack head to Glacier Bear Coffee & Tea.  While you’re there a great Alaskan store is Alaska Knifework’s, Juneau Outfitters and The Salmon Shoppe.  for the latest information head to their Facebook group https://www.facebook.com/historicmerchantswharf/

Everyone loves Tanzanite…

If you love Tanzanite’s (who doesn’t?) then choose the number one brand Safi Kilima.  The owner of Safi Kilima Morris was totally inspired by the exotic birthplace of tanzanite. He immediately changed the name of the brand to Safi Kilima which means “pure mountain” in Swahili.  Morris promptly set off for Tanzania for his first excursion to the mines, in Mt. Kilimanjaro the only location on earth where tanzanite can be found. His only aim – to bring you the most exquisite Tanzanite known to man. Visit their website for an instant 15% off https://safikilima.com/

Candy Case…

Let me ask you a silly question? Do you love candy? And do you love gorgeous colored fine gemstones?  Then you are in luck, Blue Diamond has a ‘Candy Case’ packed full of exotic and colorful gemstones
http://bluediamondgems.com/ .  My favorite the Pariba tourmaline, this incredible gem is the color of Alaska blue waters in the sunlight and Blue Diamonds is the only place you will find such a selection of this rare and precious gemstone.  Hearts On Fire “The World’s Most Perfectly Cut Diamond” and of course while in Alaska you have to invest in Natural Gold Quartz Jewelry and Alaskan Gold Nuggets, the only brand you can trust is Orocal https://orocal.com/ of which you will find a healthy selection in Blue Diamonds.   If you’re going to Juneau, download the map attached and you will see on the back is a coupon for a FREE Whale Tail pendant just by showing this map.

Gorgeous Paraiba Tourmaline only available at Blue Diamonds
